Moonen Packaging offers a wide range of biologically compostable packaging materials, and wishes to emphasize its leading role in this area.

On 16 June, Moonen Packaging signed a contract with Epea, making a first step towards 'Cradle to Cradle' certified products.

The company from Hamburg, Epea, was founded by professor Michael Braungart, and is concerned with protecting the environment. Over the last few years, the company has been focusing mainly on the 'Cradle to Cradle' principle, the most durable use of all goods.

"The objective is to have a complete assortment of 'Cradle to Cradle' certificied packaging and disposables at our disposal" says Gé Moonen, Managing Director of Moonen Packaging. "We have been testing renewable materials since 2000. This resulted in Moonen Natural, a complete range of packaging materials and disposables based on renewable products such as sugarcane, corn and jute." The first product that is eligible for the 'Cradle to Cradle' certificate is the Moonen Natural Hot Cup: a 100% compostable coffee cup, thanks to the use of environmentally friendly additives.

Gé Moonen: "All materials used to make our cup will be examined individually in light of the 'Cradle to Cradle' principle. We are expecting to receive some proposals concerning the 'Cradle to Cradle' possibilities of the product. Depending on the results, we will be looking at the possibilities for other products in the Moonen Natural assortment. Since these products are made from renewable materials and already have the EN-13432 certification, I have complete confidence in our Cradle to Cradle future!
