On 16 June, Moonen Packaging (of which Moonen Natural is a part) signed a contract with Epea, taking the first step towards 'Cradle to Cradle' certification.

The final target is to have a complete assortment of 'Cradle to Cradle' certified packaging and disposables. The first product that is eligible for a 'Cradle to Cradle' certification is the Moonen Natural Hot Cup: a compostable cup.

Cradle to cradle is the revolutionary philosophy developed by Braungart and McDonough. They advocate completely new starting points for designing and developing products based on safe an fully reusable raw materials. For example, waste can become food in an endless cycle (Waste = food).

With this basis as a starting point, McDonough and Braungart explain how products can be designed from the very start in order to serve as "food" for new products after their useful life. The Cradle to Cradle design concept starts with safe and clean raw materials. Once they are discarded, Cradle to Cradle products must be completely degradable, so that the elements can be returned to biological or technical cycles.
